Well, Zoe surprised us with an early appearance on November 16th at 10:15 p.m.!
To back up a bit, up until my 37th week I had had 2 episodes of high blood pressure for which I was monitored at the hospital for and then sent home. I also found out that the baby was in the breech position at my 36 week appointment.
So, when I was sent to the hospital for the 3rd time with high blood pressure for monitoring, we knew it was possible that I would have the baby early. I was 37 weeks along so that was considered "full term". Since my blood pressure remained high through an hour of monitoring, the decision was made to induce labor...but only after trying to turn the baby manually (by the doctor, of course!).
Not having a bag packed, we called Kim and she came to the rescue and went to our condo to pack a bag for us (Thanks Kim!). But when I got an epidural for the procedure, the baby did not tolerate it well. The nurse pressed a button that sent 10 people into the room all at once and it was decided that an emergency C section was warranted.
So...Chris suited up and sat by my side as the baby was delivered. When the doctor said "You have a daughter" we weren't surprised. Even though we didn't find out the sex ahead of time, we knew in our hearts that she was a girl ;) What we WERE surprised about was that she pooped right on the doctor as she was being pulled out and was small at only 5 lbs, 3 oz.
Besides being a little small for her age, she was absolutely perfect and we were instantly in love with our little girl...we just didn't know that her name would be Zoe quite yet!
